Overview

Never look at the Sun through an unfiltered telescope, binoculars or camera. Eclipse glasses are not protection behind magnifying optics. Use expert guidance and follow the instrument and filter manufacturer's instructions.

Educational reference, reviewed . This page is not a live mission-status report.

How it works

A suitable securely fitted front-aperture solar filter reduces incoming sunlight before it enters the optics. Inspect it for damage. Never use an eyepiece-end solar filter, and keep finders covered or safely filtered.

Why it matters

Correct filtration is essential to preventing permanent eye injury, not merely improving contrast.
