Space Missions & Technology
Orbital Rendezvous
The process of bringing spacecraft into controlled proximity in orbit.
Why it matters
Rendezvous enables resupply, crew transfer and some servicing missions.
Technology / mission operations
Overview
Two vehicles must match motion, not merely point toward each other. A rendezvous sequence uses a planned relative trajectory and safety constraints. Docking is a later contact operation, not a synonym for rendezvous.
Educational reference, reviewed . This page is not a live mission-status report.
How it works
Navigation estimates relative position and velocity while propulsion changes the trajectory. Sensors and guidance refine the approach as the separation decreases.
Why it matters
Rendezvous enables resupply, crew transfer and some servicing missions.
