Solid Rocket Motor
A rocket motor with fuel and oxidiser incorporated into a solid propellant grain.
Why it matters
Solid motors offer high thrust with a different storage and control trade-off from liquid systems.
Technology / launch propulsion
Overview
A solid motor stores propellant inside its casing. Grain shape influences the burning surface and thrust history. Ordinary solid boosters cannot be throttled or shut down like many liquid engines.
Educational reference, reviewed . This page is not a live mission-status report.
How it works
Ignition starts combustion at exposed propellant surfaces. Gas builds pressure inside the chamber and exits through a nozzle to generate thrust.
Why it matters
Solid motors offer high thrust with a different storage and control trade-off from liquid systems.
