Altazimuth Mount
A mount that points in altitude and azimuth, like up-down and left-right motion.
Why it matters
An accessible mount design helps new observers point and use an instrument.
Technology / mounts
Overview
The simple geometry is intuitive for visual observing. Motorised altazimuth systems can track targets, but the image field rotates relative to the instrument during tracking unless that rotation is corrected.
Educational reference, reviewed . This page is not a live mission-status report.
How it works
One axis changes elevation above the horizon and the other turns around the local vertical. Coordinated motion follows a celestial object as its apparent position changes.
Why it matters
An accessible mount design helps new observers point and use an instrument.
