Could the universe have emerged from a previous cosmic collapse?

Main Idea
One possibility is that our universe was not created from absolute nothingness, but emerged after a previous universe collapsed into an extremely dense state. Instead of the Big Bang being the first moment of existence, it may have been a transition point between an older cosmic cycle and our expanding universe.
Reasoning / Evidence
Some cosmological models explore the idea of a cyclic universe, where expansion and contraction may repeat across extremely long timescales. If a previous universe collapsed under gravity or reached a compressed quantum state, the energy and structure from that collapse could have triggered a new expansion. This idea is speculative, but it raises an important question: was the Big Bang the beginning of everything, or the beginning of our current cosmic cycle?
