Black Holes May Be Cosmic Recycling Points, Not Dead Ends

Main Idea
Black holes are usually described as the place where information and matter disappear forever. But another way to look at them is as recycling points in a much larger cosmic cycle. If the information that falls into a black hole is not destroyed but instead compressed, reorganized, and eventually released -- through Hawking radiation over immense timescales, or through some deeper process we don't yet understand -- then a black hole might function less like an ending and more like a transformation stage. Some models even suggest that the interior of a black hole could resemble the birth conditions of a new expanding region of spacetime, sometimes described as a "baby universe." If true, the universe might not be a single one-way story running from a Big Bang to a slow heat death, but a system that keeps turning matter and information over into new forms, with black holes acting as the hidden machinery.
Reasoning / Evidence
Physicists broadly agree that information should not be destroyed, which is part of what makes the black hole information paradox so difficult. Stephen Hawking's discovery that black holes slowly radiate energy already hints that they are not perfectly static, sealed-off objects. Some theoretical frameworks, including versions of the holographic principle, propose that everything that falls into a black hole is effectively encoded on its boundary rather than lost. Separately, a number of cosmological models have explored the idea that extreme gravitational collapse could trigger the formation of a new region of spacetime on the "other side," rather than a true singularity. None of this is confirmed, and it remains far outside what current instruments can test directly. But it reframes black holes as a process rather than a destination, which changes how we might think about the long-term fate of information, matter, and even the universe itself.
